Children of low income families can't afford books in college

Mutual housing provides homes for low income families, most of whom work in very low wage jobs. Parents want a healthy place for their children to live, and through mutual housing, hundreds of parents have provided stability for their families. Children who have grown up in mutual housing have many supports and much encouragement to stay in school and apply to college. But when they get to college--many in community colleges--families often don't have the money to pay for both tuition and books and materials. Often these students have paid jobs, but typically, they are contributing their earnings to meet basic family expenses...food, rent, health care, clothing, transportation. We are seeking donations to help these amazing youth purchase the necessary books and materials. These youth have made the right choices, against many odds. Most of them have given back to their communities through volunteerism. They are likely to stay involved in community service for the rest of their lives. They are usually the first in their families to attend college. Through their persistence and success in college, they can break the cycle of poverty in their families. Let's help them stay in school...help them succeed. We hope you'll contribute what you can to support these students.
